Digital Signage technology is the most under-utilized right now. All I hear about is how many thousand screens or hundred screen networks companies have set up. Most are in the OOH space or corporate use. That’s just one of the applications of the digital signage technology. Most of the business users do not know of any more applications.

If there is one dominant technology that’s going to change the digital signage industry, it is interactivity. How many of us remember an event where we had to participate, talk, perform, interact and experience. Almost all. Its all about the experience. What is the first thing that comes to our mind when we say interactive. Touch screen Kiosks…. There are other interesting technologies that are interactive, cell phones, sms, Bluetooth, rfid etc that are not completely utilized. You can really build different solutions using the interactive technology. Lets be different.

There are too many products today and many being made for tomorrow. A business user is looking for a solution to his business problem and not technology. With times getting tougher, we have to show real business benefits to the business users rather than just good looking screens. To find a solution that works for a particular customer is the business challenge. Integrating products to work together is the technology challenge. Hardware has set integration patterns, protocols and buses and interfaces. Not like Software, which can be changed, morphed or integrated into almost anything. Software gives the power to deliver customer oriented solutions.

We are in the communication business. This is in direct control of marketing, corporate communications etc, These guys have to generate new ideas. That’s are part of their job. We usually start with one solution and end up with more being added every month. With so many solutions available, how does one manage all of them using the same management tools? The challenge is to have a hybrid management system for business users and technology users.
